Quantum Engineer Intern

OpenRemote

3-6 months

Overview

We are seeking a Quantum Team Intern to join FloLabs, where you will help explore how quantum computing, quantum machine learning, advanced optimization, privacy, and secure systems may support future products such as MoodChanger, CAIPO, and other frontier initiatives across AI, robotics, behavioural technology, and intelligent digital infrastructure.

This internship is designed for students, early researchers, and curious builders who want to understand where quantum technology may create real value. The Quantum Team acts as a research and acceleration layer, identifying opportunities in computation, intelligent systems, optimization, privacy, and long-term security planning.

As a Quantum Team Intern, you may research how quantum technologies could apply to AI, machine learning, robotics, behavioural data, recommendation systems, privacy-preserving systems, and future secure infrastructure. You may also help build a Quantum Opportunity Report that identifies practical and future-facing use cases for FloLabs products and research initiatives.

You do not need to be a quantum expert to apply. This role is ideal for individuals who are curious, thoughtful, research-driven, and excited by emerging technology. Selected interns will begin with a Quantum Foundations Learning Track, built from curated resources and internal FloLabs guidance, before contributing to active research and project work.

This internship is a strong fit for students and early-career innovators interested in quantum computing, AI, robotics, cybersecurity, machine learning, mathematics, physics, optimization, and future-ready intelligent systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Research how quantum technologies may apply to AI, machine learning, robotics, optimization, behavioural data, and privacy-preserving systems.
  • Help build a Quantum Opportunity Report identifying where quantum technology may create value for FloLabs products and long-term innovation goals.
  • Explore quantum-enhanced optimization for robotics planning, scheduling, and intelligent system coordination.
  • Research quantum machine learning use cases for behavioural pattern detection, personalization, recommendation systems, and future AI workflows.
  • Support research into quantum-safe privacy frameworks for sensitive user data, behavioural data, and intelligent digital platforms.
  • Explore future-facing secure communication models for AI platforms, robotics systems, and connected intelligent infrastructure.
  • Assist in evaluating tools and platforms such as IBM Quantum, Qiskit, AWS Braket, Google Quantum AI, Cirq, and related ecosystems.
  • Support collaboration between the Quantum Team and partner teams working on MoodChanger, CAIPO, AI systems, robotics, and secure infrastructure.
  • Research partnerships, grants, and non-dilutive funding opportunities related to quantum innovation and frontier technology.
  • Summarize technical findings into clear insights, reports, presentations, and project recommendations.
  • Participate in team meetings, research discussions, brainstorming sessions, and project reviews.

Qualifications and skills

  • Strong interest in quantum computing, AI, robotics, optimization, privacy, cybersecurity, or advanced research.
  • Curiosity about how emerging technologies can support real products, intelligent systems, and long-term innovation.
  • Comfortable researching unfamiliar technical topics and turning findings into clear insights.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a remote interdisciplinary team.
  • Helpful academic backgrounds include computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, machine learning, data science, robotics, cybersecurity, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with Python, linear algebra, optimization, machine learning, cryptography, or quantum tools is a plus.
  • Experience with research writing, technical documentation, simulations, data analysis, or scientific communication is preferred.
  • Interest in quantum-safe privacy, post-quantum security, hybrid quantum-classical workflows, and future secure systems.
  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to compare which technologies are practical today versus which are still early-stage.
  • Willingness to learn quickly, ask thoughtful questions, and contribute to early-stage research direction.
